VOXAI-HMS: A Voice-Enabled Hospital Management System for Reception Automation in Indian Healthcare

  • Indian hospitals, especially in tier-2 and tier-3 cities, continue to rely heavily on manual front-desk workflows for patient registration, appointment scheduling, and information handling, leading to long queues, administrative overload, and data entry errors. Voice-based artificial intelligence (AI) systems have recently emerged as a promising solution for automating hospital reception and integrating with hospital information systems and electronic health records (EHRs). This paper presents VOXAI-HMS, a voice-enabled Hospital Management System designed to automate reception tasks such as patient registration, appointment booking, and doctor-availability queries through a natural language voice interface, while supporting structured digital data storage aligned with Indian EHR Standards 2016 and the Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM). The architecture, core modules, security mechanisms, and evaluation plan are described, with emphasis on usability, accuracy of voice recognition, and compliance with emerging Indian digital health regulations.
