  • Abstract:
  • Retrofitting of reinforced concrete (RC) short columns using Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP) strips is an effective technique to enhance their structural performance under axial loads and adverse conditions. In this study, RC short column specimens are strengthened by externally bonding CFRP strips in various configurations, such as horizontal and inclined patterns, using epoxy resin. The retrofitted and unretrofitted columns are tested under compression to evaluate improvements in load-carrying capacity, stiffness, ductility, and failure behavior. The results indicate that CFRP strip confinement significantly increases the strength and delays crack propagation, thereby improving the overall durability and performance of the columns. This method provides a cost-effective and practical solution for strengthening existing structures, especially in seismic and load-deficient conditions.
