abstract = {Emerging infectious diseases (EIDs) remain a burden to the global health system in terms of being unpredictable, spreading at a high rate, and strongly driven by the complex ecological factors. Vaccination is still the foundation of the prevention, but the COVID-19 pandemic has helped to see the potential of vaccines, as well as the limitations of the existing strategies. The review is also a critical analysis of the latest developments in the field of vaccine technologies, their application in real-life outbreak situations, and the ongoing challenges of unequal access, antigenic drift, and sociopolitical issues. The paper also identifies future directions such as universal vaccines; design assisted by AI and integrated One Health paradigms. There is a critical approach taken through out to evaluate whether the current innovations are enough to tackle the future pandemic threats.},
