Compensation of Harmonics in Microgrids: A Review

  • The integration of flexible loads and distributed energy resources (DERs) into microgrids is increasing the complexity and uncertainty of these systems. This has led to challenges in the control and operation of microgrids, as well as opportunities for novel data-driven methods to address these challenges. One such method is harmonic compensation, It involves minimizing the distortion of the current and voltage waveforms brought on by non-linear loads. There are numerous techniques for harmonic compensation that can be used in both islanded and grid-connected microgrids. This paper provides a comprehensive review on harmonic compensation in microgrids. The paper begins by discussing the basics of harmonics and their impact on microgrids. It then reviews the different methods of harmonic compensation, including passive, active, and hybrid methods. The paper also discusses the challenges and future trends in harmonic compensation in microgrids. The paper concludes by providing a summary of the key findings and recommendations. The findings of this paper suggest that harmonic compensation is a promising method for improving the operation and control of microgrids.
