The study employs primary data gathered in the bank branches and secondary data in the publications of the reserve bank of India to study the trends, causes and management of NPAs in the banking sectors. The results indicate that the gross NPA ratios of the public sector banks are high; however, the private sector banks are also encountering new stressors in the unsecured retail sectors.
