Solar Powered Outdoor Air Purifier

  • Rapid urbanization, industrial growth, and in- creased vehicular emissions have led to a significant rise in outdoor air pollution, posing serious health risks to humans and negatively impacting the environment. Conventional air purification systems are mostly designed for indoor use and de- pend heavily on grid electricity, limiting their applicability in outdoor environments. To address these challenges, this project focuses on the design and implementation of a Solar Powered Outdoor Air Purifier, which provides a sustainable, energy- efficient, and eco-friendly solution for improving outdoor air quality. The proposed system utilizes solar photovoltaic (PV) panels as the primary energy source to power the air purification unit. The harvested solar energy is regulated through a charge controller and stored in a rechargeable battery, ensuring uninterrupted operation even during low sunlight conditions. The air purification mechanism employs a multi-stage filtration system, including a pre-filter for large dust particles, a HEPA filter for fine particulate matter (PM2.5 and PM10), and an activated carbon filter to remove harmful gases, smoke, and unpleasant odors. An electronic control unit manages system operation, optimizes power usage, and protects the battery from overcharging and deep discharge. The purifier is designed to operate efficiently in outdoor and semi-open spaces such as public parks, bus stops, railway stations, campuses, and industrial zones. The system requires minimal maintenance, reduces dependence on non-renewable energy sources, and contributes to lowering the overall carbon footprint. The Solar Powered Outdoor Air Purifier demon- strates a practical approach to combining renewable energy technology with environmental protection.
