IoT-Based Smart Vehicle Black Box and Accident Prevention System with Real-Time Emergency Alerting

  • Road accidents remain one of the leading causes of mortality worldwide, especially in developing countries. Major contributing factors include drunk driving, delayed emergency response, and lack of structured accident data recording systems in non-luxury vehicles. This paper presents an IoT-based Smart Vehicle Black Box and Accident Prevention System designed to enhance road safety through automatic accident detection, alcohol monitoring, GPS-based emergency alerting, and structured event data recording. The proposed system integrates an ESP32 microcontroller with MPU6050 motion sensor, MQ-3 alcohol sensor, GPS NEO-6M module, GSM SIM800L communication module, and SD card storage for black box functionality. Upon accident detection, realtime alerts containing GPS coordinates are transmitted to emergency contacts. Additionally, engine ignition is prevented if alcohol levels exceed predefined thresholds. Experimental validation confirms reliable detection, low latency alert propagation, and secure data logging. The system provides a cost-effective, scalable, and deployable safety solution for common vehicles.
