abstract = {The construction industry is one of the largest contributors to global waste generation, accounting for nearly 30–40% of total solid waste worldwide. Inefficient planning, poor coordination, and lack of real-time data contribute significantly to material wastage, cost overruns, and project delays. Building Information Modeling (BIM), a digital representation of physical and functional characteristics of a facility, has emerged as a transformative solution to address these issues.
This research investigates the role of BIM in minimizing construction waste while optimizing cost, time, and resource utilization. The study integrates recent advancements such as 4D (time-based) and 5D (cost-based) BIM, along with emerging technologies like machine learning and digital twins. Findings from recent studies indicate that BIM-based planning can reduce construction waste by up to 15–30% and improve project efficiency significantly.
The research adopts a mixed-method approach including literature review, case analysis, and workflow modeling. Results highlight that BIM enables accurate quantity take-offs, clash detection, improved scheduling, and better resource management. The study concludes that
