        abstract = {Climate change poses an existential threat to economic development in Sub-Saharan Africa (SSA), primarily through its adverse effects on human health and labour productivity. This study examines the economic burden of climate-induced health risks — including heat stress, malaria, cholera, and malnutrition — on labour productivity and public health expenditure across 25 SSA countries over 2000–2023. Employing panel Fixed Effects (FE), Random Effects (RE), and System Generalised Method of Moments (System-GMM), the study finds that a 1°C rise in average annual temperature is associated with a 1.7% decline in agricultural labour productivity and a 2.3 percentage point increase in government health expenditure as a share of GDP. Climate-sensitive diseases account for approximately 38% of total productivity losses in the region. The study recommends that SSA governments adopt climate-responsive health financing frameworks, strengthen early warning health systems, and integrate climate adaptation into national health and economic planning as a matter of urgent fiscal necessity.},
