        abstract = {The 2026 Tamil Nadu Assembly election has emerged as one of the most transformative political developments in contemporary Indian politics. The election fundamentally altered the long-standing bipolar political structure dominated by the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) and the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK). The emergence of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK), led by actor-turned-politician C. Joseph Vijay, disrupted the traditional electoral equations and introduced a new phase of coalition-centered politics in Tamil Nadu. TVK secured 108 seats and emerged as the single largest party, while the DMK and AIADMK witnessed significant electoral decline.
The election results reflected a deeper transformation in voter behavior, especially among youth, urban middle classes, first-time voters, and politically disillusioned sections of society. The high voter turnout demonstrated growing political engagement and a desire for an alternative political imagination beyond the conventional Dravidian framework. The election also revealed important shifts in caste alignments, welfare politics, media influence, and leadership-based mobilization.
This article critically examines the political significance of the 2026 Tamil Nadu election by analyzing the collapse of the traditional Dravidian duopoly, the rise of celebrity-driven populism, the revival of coalition politics, and the implications for national politics. The study argues that Tamil Nadu has entered a new political phase where coalition negotiations, social media-driven campaigns, and personality-centered politics are becoming increasingly influential in shaping electoral outcomes.},
