abstract = {Orchidaceae, one of the largest and most diverse families of flowering plants, is renowned for its importance in ecology, medicine, and decoration. Because of their rich phytochemical makeup and medicinal capabilities, some orchid species have long been used in many medical systems. This review's objective is to compile and analyze the pharmacological and ethnobotanical significance of specific orchid species that are members of the Orchidaceae family. A systematic literature review was undertaken in accordance with PRISMA 2020 criteria, using books, peer-reviewed journals, and electronic databases. Six orchid species from six distinct genera—Coryanthes, Corallorhiza, Diuris, Arethusa bulbosa, Calypso bulbosa, and Dactylorhiza viridis—were included in this study. Orchids contain a variety of bioactive compounds, including alkaloids, flavonoids, terpenoids, phenanthrenes, and bibenzyl derivatives. Alkaloids are found in about 64 genera and 214 species in concentrations of 0.1% or more, making them extensively distributed among these. Orchids have historically been used to treat fever, inflammation, epilepsy, infections, and digestive issues, according to ethnobotanical data. The therapeutic potential of orchids is highlighted in this study, along with the necessity of additional pharmacological research and conservation measures to guarantee sustainable use.},
