abstract = {This study investigates the extent to which a structured preparation framework improves the likelihood of attaining grade 7 in IBDP Mathematics: Analysis and Approaches Higher Level (AA HL). The framework integrates five components commonly recommended in IB practice: (i) explicit subject-guide literacy, (ii) concept-focused classroom instruction supported by reference textbooks, (iii) deliberate problem practice on syllabus-aligned exercises, (iv) systematic training with AA HL past-paper questions under the current syllabus, and (v) criterion-based support for the Mathematics Internal Assessment (IA).
The research adopts a mixed-methods design with AA HL students from one IB World School, combining survey data on preparation habits, logs of practice activity, IA criterion scores, and mock examination results with student and teacher interviews. Quantitative analyses examine the relationships between each preparation component and examination performance, while qualitative data explore how students experience the transition from conceptual understanding to success on IB-style questions. The findings are expected to identify which aspects of the preparation framework most strongly predict movement from grades 5–6 to grade 7, and to generate practical recommendations for sequencing instruction, practice, and IA support across the two-year course. The study aims to provide evidence-based guidance for IB educators seeking to design coherent, curriculum-aligned preparation models for high achievement in Mathematics AA HL.},
