  • Abstract:
  • This study examines the impact of Global Financial Crises (GFCs) on the financial performance and strategic resilience of Reliance Capital Limited (RCL), a key player in India’s financial services sector. Drawing on both primary and secondary data, the analysis spans the period from Mar-20 to Mar-24, covering key dimensions such as revenue performance, liquidity, capital adequacy, credit risk, market volatility, debt management, operational efficiency, shareholder impact, and macroeconomic sensitivity. Findings indicate that RCL faced persistent financial instability, with sustained negative profitability, declining liquidity, and elevated leverage. While capital adequacy ratios improved and risk management practices evolved, operational inefficiencies and credit risk remained critical concerns. The firm’s market returns were volatile, shareholder value eroded, and global diversification was absent. Furthermore, performance exhibited pronounced sensitivity to macroeconomic fluctuations such as GDP cycles and inflation. The study highlights the need for comprehensive debt restructuring, cost optimization, enhanced credit risk controls, and proactive risk governance. Strategic diversification and improved shareholder value restoration are vital for long-term sustainability. The insights contribute to the broader understanding of how Indian financial institutions can navigate global financial disruptions through adaptive, resilient, and forward-looking strategies.
