abstract = {Education is an important factor in the development of people and societies, but in today's world, it faces numerous challenges. Technology has advanced very rapidly, access to quality education is unequal, commercialisation has reduced, old-fashioned values have gone down, a shortage of teachers, exam pressure, and discrepancies in digitalisation have significantly affected the educational outcomes globally. In developing nations like India, problems like poor infrastructure, disparity between rural and urban learning, lack of employment opportunities for educated young people and policy implementation challenges persist. COVID-19 has further exacerbated the learning opportunity and the digital access gap, especially with the introduction of online learning. This chapter examines key issues and challenges in the education system through a sociological lens and illustrates this impact on learners, teachers and society. It also reviews the existing education reform, technological innovations and policy interventions which have been designed to improve the quality of education and inclusion. The chapter ends with a focus on the importance of value-based, equitable and technology-driven education to respond to the twenty-first century's needs.},
