  • Abstract:
  • The use of Augmented Reality (AR) has proven itself to be an effective technology for improving the interaction between users through the integration of virtual elements into the real world. In this paper, an Interactive Augmented Reality Earth Exploration System is proposed to create an engaging and educational platform for studying the geographical and cultural data. It is implemented in Unity using AR Foundation and XR Interaction Toolkit to show a 3D model of the Earth sphere in augmented space on smartphones. Countries are located on the Earth sphere based on their latitude and longitude coordinates, and users can select any country to get multimedia information like the country’s flag, national animal, national bird, and corresponding audio information. Scriptable Objects are used to manage metadata efficiently. This research reimagines the process of studying geography into a highly interactive and intuitive one by leveraging AR visualizations and touch interaction.
