abstract = {The coronavirus illness 2019 (COVID-19), caused by Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome Coronavirus-2 (SARS-CoV-2), first appeared in Wuhan, China, in late 2019 and quickly spread to become a global pandemic with significant health, social, and economic effects. The origin, structure, transmission, epidemiology, pathophysiology, clinical signs, diagnosis, prevention, therapeutic approaches, and international public health reactions related to COVID-19 are all summarized in this paper. Respiratory droplets, aerosols, and close human contact are the main ways that SARS-CoV-2 spreads; asymptomatic and presymptomatic transmission play a major role in the disease's spread. The viral spike protein binds to angiotensin-converting enzyme 2 (ACE2) receptors, allowing viral entrance and reproduction within host cells. Clinical outcomes vary from mild respiratory infection to severe pneumonia, acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS), multiorgan failure, and post-COVID sequelae. RT-PCR, antigen testing, laboratory biomarkers, and radiographic imaging are examples of diagnostic techniques. Supportive treatment, oxygen therapy, corticosteroids like dexamethasone, immunomodulators like tocilizumab in severe cases, and antiviral medications like remdesivir and nirmatrelvir/ritonavir are all part of therapeutic management. Controlling the transmission of disease has been greatly aided by vaccination campaigns and preventative measures like masking, hygiene, ventilation, and surveillance. Long COVID, genomic surveillance, new variations, and changing WHO standards from 2020 to 2025 are all covered in the review. Reducing future global health hazards and enhancing resistance against emerging infectious illnesses will require ongoing international cooperation, evidence-based treatment strategies, and improved pandemic preparedness.},
