abstract = {Medicinal plants continue to play a crucial role in modern healthcare and drug discovery owing to their rich reservoir of bioactive phytochemicals and diverse pharmacological properties. Despite significant advances in synthetic therapeutics, chronic diseases, microbial resistance, inflammatory disorders, and oxidative stress-related conditions remain major global health concerns. The limitations associated with conventional therapies, including adverse effects, drug resistance, high treatment costs, and poor patient compliance, have stimulated increasing interest in plant-derived therapeutic agents. Among various medicinal plants, Radermachera xylocarpa (Roxb.) K. Schum., a member of the family Bignoniaceae, has attracted scientific attention because of its ethnomedicinal significance and broad spectrum of biological activities.
Radermachera xylocarpa is distributed throughout tropical and subtropical regions of India and Southeast Asia and has traditionally been used in indigenous systems of medicine for the treatment of inflammation, fever, microbial infections, gastrointestinal disorders, skin diseases, and various other ailments. Phytochemical investigations have revealed the presence of numerous bioactive constituents, including flavonoids, alkaloids, phenolic compounds, terpenoids, glycosides, tannins, and sterols. These compounds contribute significantly to the plant’s antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antimicrobial, hepatoprotective, analgesic, and cytoprotective properties. Recent scientific studies have demonstrated that extracts and isolated phytochemicals from R. xylocarpa possess promising pharmacological activities through multiple mechanisms, including modulation of inflammatory mediators, inhibition of oxidative stress, regulation of cellular signaling pathways, and protection against microbial pathogens. Furthermore, the integration of plant-derived bioactive compounds with advanced drug delivery systems such as nanoparticles, liposomes, nanoemulsions, and hydrogels has emerged as an innovative approach to enhance therapeutic efficacy, bioavailability, and targeted delivery. This review comprehensively summarizes the botanical profile, phytochemical constituents, pharmacological activities, molecular mechanisms, therapeutic applications, and future prospects of Radermachera xylocarpa. The review also highlights recent advances in herbal drug delivery technologies and discusses the potential of this medicinal plant as a valuable source for the development of novel phytopharmaceutical products. Continued research on R. xylocarpa may contribute significantly to the discovery of safer, effective, and affordable therapeutic agents for various human diseases.},
