        abstract = {The Bundjalung people, original custodians of land extending from the Clarence River to the Logan River and west to the Great Dividing Range, belong to one of the world’s oldest continuous living cultures in Australia. In Mullumbimby (2013), Melissa Lucashenko depicts contemporary Bundjalung life within this ancestral terrain, foregrounding land as a constitutive force in the creation of identity and sense of belonging. Though the novel has been widely examined through the lenses of resistance, survival, and Indigenous ontopoetics, its spatial dynamics and emotional implications on the inhabitants have received limited critical attention. This paper argues that lived, contested, and remembered spaces in Mullumbimby actively shape the psyche of its characters and their perception of life. Drawing on spatial theory, particularly concepts of lived space, place-making, and spatial affect, the paper undertakes a close analysis of the domestic, communal, and ancestral landscapes in the novel. By foregrounding spatial theory, this paper offers a new critical lens for Lucashenko’s work and highlights the ways in which human emotions are impacted by relational engagement with place.},
