abstract = {Bridge structures are subject to constant dynamic loading, environmental degradation, corrosion, flooding, and structural ageing. The failure of such infrastructure can lead to catastrophic accidents, significant traffic disruption, and the loss of human life. Consequently, the continuous monitoring of bridge structural integrity is essential.
This project details the design and development of a cost-effective, intelligent bridge monitoring system capable of detecting overload conditions, excessive vibration, structural cracking, deflection, and flood levels in real time. The architecture integrates various sensors, including infrared and water-level sensors, interfaced with an Arduino Uno microcontroller. Sensor data are continuously monitored and analysed by the controller. Should any parameter exceed a predefined safety threshold, warning signals are triggered via LEDs and audible alarms. Concurrently, barriers located at both ends of the bridge are engaged to restrict access immediately. A servo motor-driven automatic gate mechanism prevents vehicles from entering the bridge under hazardous conditions.
The proposed system enhances public safety, reduces maintenance expenditure, minimizes the necessity for manual inspection, and offers an economical solution for the structural health monitoring of bridges and flyovers. GSM module is also used to give warning message to the nearest government agencies.},
