  • Abstract:
  • The presented research paper presents a comprehensive analysis of the historical development, current challenges, and future prospects of the Indian economy. The main objective of the research is to understand how 200 years of British colonial exploitation exploited India's resources and left the country in a dilapidated economic situation at the time of independence. The research evaluates the role of India's various five-year plans, highlighting the progress of the agriculture sector and the impact of the Green Revolution in particular. The findings of the study show that while the Green Revolution made India self-sufficient in food grain production, the country's vast population still remains the biggest obstacle to economic growth. The paper also analyses the evolution of India's import-export policies—which have moved from an introverted approach to a global market-oriented one. Additionally, India's rich mineral wealth and its regional distribution are discussed, which strengthen the industrial base. Ultimately, this paper suggests that it is only through the convergence of 'population control' and 'technological innovation' that India can achieve the goal of a fully self-reliant and developed economy.
