  • Abstract:
  • Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women worldwide and remains a major public health concern, especially in developing countries. The disease mainly develops due to long-term infection caused by the Human Papillomavirus (HPV), which spreads through sexual contact. In many cases, cervical cancer grows slowly and may not show clear symptoms during its early stages, making regular screening and early diagnosis extremely important. Common symptoms include abnormal vaginal bleeding, pelvic pain, and unusual discharge. Various diagnostic methods such as Pap smear tests, HPV testing, colposcopy, and biopsy help in detecting the disease at an early stage. Treatment options depend on the stage of cancer and may include surgery, chemotherapy, radiation therapy, immunotherapy, and targeted therapy. In recent years, HPV vaccination and awareness programs have played a significant role in reducing the risk of cervical cancer among women. However, lack of awareness, limited healthcare facilities, social stigma, and late diagnosis continue to be major challenges in many regions. This review paper discusses the causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment approaches, prevention strategies, and recent developments related to cervical cancer while highlighting the importance of early detection and public health awareness in reducing mortality rates associated with the disease.
