Sixty-six Years of Resistance in Exile: A Reflection of Tibetan Refugees in Aruna Nagar, Delhi

  • Abstract:
  • The paper seeks to examine the sixty-six years of Tibetan exile in Delhi, India, analyzing their life in Delhi as a sustained condition of political struggle rather than mere political displacement. Tibetan refugees constitute one of the most politically distinct and culturally cohesive refugee communities in India. Delhi, being one of the major urban centers and a political hub, hosts a notable proportion of the Tibetan refugee population that occupies a unique socio-legal position, neither fully assimilated nor entirely marginalized. Utilizing a qualitative method approach that combines qualitative interviews, participant observation, and analysis of policy documents, this study investigates the ways in which Tibetan refugees navigate their stateless identity and articulate the longing within the Indian state framework. For this research, we are going to explore certain formal Tibetan organizations and informal community networks to understand their everyday resistance in exile.
