abstract = {The present study was undertaken to formulate and evaluate an herbal wound-healing cream containing extracts of Acorus calamus and Fenugreek (Trigonella foenum-graecum). Wound healing is a complex biological process involving tissue repair and regeneration, and herbal medicines have gained significant attention due to their safety and therapeutic efficacy. Acorus calamus possesses antimicrobial and anti-inflammatory properties, while fenugreek exhibits antioxidant, moisturizing, and wound-healing activities.
The herbal extracts were prepared by ethanolic maceration and subjected to preliminary phytochemical screening, which confirmed the presence of flavonoids, saponins, lipids, and phenolic compounds. Three cream formulations (F1, F2, and F3) were prepared using the emulsification method with suitable excipients such as stearic acid, cetyl alcohol, liquid paraffin, glycerin, methyl paraben, and triethanolamine. The prepared formulations were evaluated for physical appearance, pH, spreadability, irritancy, washability, homogeneity, phase separation, and viscosity.
Among the formulations, F2 showed the most desirable characteristics with a skin-compatible pH of 5.5, good homogeneity, acceptable viscosity (32,500 CPS), satisfactory spreadability (8.33 g/cm), easy washability, absence of phase separation, and non-irritant behavior. The results indicated that the combination of Acorus calamus and fenugreek extracts produced a stable and effective topical formulation with potential wound-healing activity. In conclusion, the developed herbal cream, particularly formulation F2, demonstrated promising physicochemical properties and may serve as a safe and effective wound-healing preparation. Further pharmacological and clinical studies are recommended to establish its therapeutic efficacy and commercial applicability.},
