        abstract = {Background: Organized sports events play a vital role in promoting physical activity, student engagement, and holistic development in higher education. Regular participation in intramural and extramural sports enhances physical fitness, psychological well-being, leadership, teamwork, and social interaction. However, evidence on the organization of sports events and student participation in technical institutions across different regions remains limited. Objective: This study aimed to comparatively analyse the organization of sports events and student participation in technical institutions across different zones of Karnataka. Methods: A descriptive comparative research design was adopted. A total of 120 technical institutions affiliated with Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), Karnataka, were selected through a random sampling technique, with 15 institutions representing each of the eight zones. Data were collected from Physical Education Directors or Sports In-charge personnel using a self-structured questionnaire. The variables included the frequency of organizing indoor and outdoor sports events and the percentage of students participating in intramural and extramural sports. The collected data were analysed using frequency and percentage. Results: The findings revealed considerable regional variations in sports event organization and student participation. The Mangalore and Bangalore Central zones organized indoor and outdoor sports events more frequently and reported higher levels of student participation in both intramural and extramural sports. In contrast, the Belagavi and Gulbarga zones demonstrated comparatively lower frequencies of sports event organization and lower student participation. Conclusion: The study concludes that the regular organization of sports events is associated with higher student participation in institutional sports programmes. Strengthening sports event planning and ensuring equitable opportunities across technical institutions may enhance student engagement, promote active lifestyles, and foster holistic development among engineering students in Karnataka.},
