abstract = {Agriculture is the primary source of livelihood for the majority of people in Hassan district, Karnataka. The district largely depends on monsoon rainfall for the cultivation of coffee, paddy, maize, arecanut, and other crops. In recent years, deficit rainfall has emerged as a major challenge due to climate change and irregular monsoon patterns. Reduced rainfall has significantly affected agricultural productivity, groundwater availability, and the socio-economic condition of farmers. This study examines the extent of deficit rainfall in Hassan district and its impact on farming communities. It highlights how inadequate rainfall delays sowing, reduces crop yields, increases irrigation costs, and leads to water scarcity. The study also discusses the financial burden on farmers caused by crop losses, declining income, and increasing indebtedness. Special attention is given to the effects of rainfall deficiency on coffee cultivation, which is one of the district's major commercial crops. The research is based on secondary data collected from government reports, research articles, and published literature. It emphasizes the need for sustainable water management, climate-resilient agricultural practices, efficient irrigation systems, and government support to minimize the adverse effects of rainfall deficit. The findings suggest that effective adaptation strategies and improved policy interventions are essential to ensure agricultural sustainability, strengthen farmers' resilience, and safeguard rural livelihoods in Hassan district under changing climatic conditions.},
