abstract = {One of the captivating style of today which is incorporated in the narratives is magical realism. This paper has dissected and analyzed the magical realism elements in the novel The Seven Moons of Maali Almeida by Shehan Karunatilaka, using the magical realism theory by Wendy B. Faris. The paper offers a deep insight into the Sri Lankan civil war of the 1980s, which had a profound impact on the civilians. Complex themes
like war, violence and death, is addressed here and made it easier for the understanding of the readers. Instances are provided from the story, to show the
interdependence of magical realism and the political aspects within the narrative. This paper argues that the fantastical world, enriched with mythological characters and fantastical elements, is preferable to the real world dominated by the politics, where the powerful engage in inhumane activities.},
