  • Abstract:
  • Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs) have become vital in applications such as agriculture, healthcare, and industrial monitoring. However, their limited energy resources constrain scalability and longevity. With the rapid growth of the Internet of Things (IoT), integrating WSN clustering strategies into IoT environments is essential to achieve energy efficiency, scalability, and reliability. This paper proposes an IoT-aware cluster head selection (CHS) framework that adapts traditional WSN protocols (LEACH, HEED, SEP, DEEC) for heterogeneous IoT networks. By incorporating parameters such as device heterogeneity, mobility, and edge-assisted computation, the proposed model enhances energy efficiency, prolongs network lifetime, and ensures secure data aggregation in large-scale IoT deployments. Simulation results demonstrate significant improvements in throughput, stability, and energy conservation compared to baseline WSN protocols.
