  • Abstract:
  • The growing integration of artificial intelligence (AI) into news production has brought renewed attention to a fundamental question in journalism: how do audiences assess the credibility, accuracy, and authenticity of news when they know that AI has contributed to its creation? This question is particularly significant for young adults, who encounter AI-mediated content across an increasingly diverse digital media environment. The present study examines these perceptions through a structured survey of 122 respondents drawn primarily from Rewa and Indore, Madhya Pradesh. The questionnaire explored respondents’ news-consumption habits, the cues they use to assess trustworthiness, their prior exposure to AI-generated content, their comfort with AI-assisted news production, and their comparative trust in AI-generated and human-produced journalism. Descriptive findings indicate that exposure to AI-generated content is relatively common, but familiarity has not translated into strong confidence in fully AI-authored news. The study therefore considers not only whether young adults trust AI-generated journalism, but also the conditions under which such trust may be established.
