  • Abstract:
  • Mental health has emerged as a critical organizational concern, influencing employee retention, productivity, engagement, and overall workplace effectiveness. As employee well-being becomes increasingly central to organizational success, Human Resource Management (HRM) plays a strategic role in designing and implementing proactive interventions that promote psychological well-being and foster a supportive work environment. This study explores the role of strategic HR interventions in enhancing workplace mental health through the integration of organizational policies, supportive leadership practices, and evidence-based well-being initiatives. It emphasizes that mental health should not be treated as an isolated organizational initiative but rather embedded within organizational culture, leadership behaviour, and everyday management practices. The paper examines key workplace stressors, including excessive workloads, job insecurity, limited autonomy, and challenging interpersonal relationships, and explores how HR practices related to job design, performance management, flexible work arrangements, and transparent communication can mitigate these challenges. Emphasis is placed on the role of leadership in recognizing early signs of psychological distress, demonstrating empathy, and cultivating psychologically safe work environments. Furthermore, the study highlights the importance of Employee Assistance Programmes (EAPs), peer-support networks, and digital mental health interventions as integral components of a comprehensive HR strategy rather than standalone employee benefits. The study underscores the potential of strategically aligned mental health initiatives to enhance employee engagement, reduce absenteeism, strengthen retention, and foster a culture of trust, inclusion, and organizational commitment. It concludes that a preventive, inclusive, and leadership-driven approach to workplace mental health is essential for sustaining employee well-being, organizational resilience, and long-term performance.
