Abstract
The solar parabolic trough collector technology is one of the most reliable Technologies in the field of solar thermal. In the present study analysis on a parabolic trough collector is performed. Different parameters of the system such as receiver tube diameter, material of the receiver tube and heat transfer fluid are chosen for the study and evaluating the performance of the system.Water and Therminol55 oil are used as heat transfer fluids. Five mass flow rates are used for both the fluids. The different mass flow rates which are considered as 0.033Kg/Sec,0.1Kg/Sec,0.166Kg/Sec. On the basis of recorded parameters efficiency of the system was calculated and its variation with time of day and mass flow rate for different conditions is represented graphically. From the results it is observed that with water as working fluid 28.8% efficiency is attained at 0.166Kg/Sec,and at the same mass flow rate oil gives 17.8%.Water gives best results than oil because water having low viscosity and high specific heat.
