Abstract
This paper is to investigate the factors detrimental for fish and fishery sector exports from India. The paper uses VAR methodology to focus as it has the advantage of imposing no theoretical restriction such as exogeneity of the variables and for incorporating dynamic relations among economic variables. The major results suggest that it is more responsive to the lagged values of price, quantity exported, incidence of world demand, relative price etc. Evidence from Granger causality establishes bidirectional causation with respect to price and quantity edifying the market equilibrium theory. The paper thus highlights, the determinants of fisheries sector trade in general, though their relative importance varies from country to country. The emphasis is to carefully specify the model in order to cull out the deterministic factors.
