Abstract
English is not our mother tongue; it has been borrowed from Britishers. Therefore, many of us are facing a lot of difficulties while speaking in English and these difficulties are mostly found with the rural students in India. In line with acquisition of language skills such as Listening, Speaking, Reading and Writing of which listening is done naturally and easy, whereas writing skills can be developed along with reading habits, but speaking or communication in English being non-native speakers can be a big task and challenge to the rural students where lack of communicative environment in both places school or colleges and at home. It is observed that when students are admitted to engineering discipline in engineering institute placed in rural sector of India, then it becomes more difficult and challenging to such students who are having less competency over speaking English or communication in English and it becomes really barrier to them when time comes to them to present something in front of an audience, while delivering seminar to other people or interacting with professors or colleagues and that becomes the main cause to produce inferiority complex about English communication and negative attitudes to stage performances or anything that requires their English communication skill. Because of such terrific situations, they meet failure in getting recruited in campus selection or meet failure in facing an interview or any other activities which are conducted to test their English communication skills by interview panel. Such poor communicators or English speakers easily meet failure in achieving the higher expectations of corporate world afterwards.
Therefore, in order to resolve such issues of poor English communicators belong to rural sector-based engineering colleges, there is a need to produce some platforms like English communication Club under which some speaking-based activities can be conducted to improve their communicative competence, stage daring and body language as well. Therefore, this research paper highlights the importance of English Communication Club to the First Year of Engineering but rural students in India.
