  • Abstract:
  • The term demography has been defined as the study of components of population variation and change. It was applied in French academic circles to statistics concerning the conditions of the people especially those affecting health and mortality, but in modern usage it has been restricted to the study of population, i.e., the quantitative analysis of population, structure and trends. As per Merriam Webster’s dictionary, characteristics mean a distinguishing trait, quality or property. Population characteristics mean a distinguishing trait quality or property of population. Population characteristics consists of distinguishing population in density and distribution, growth, sex ratio, literacy, fertility, mortality, migration, age structure and occupational structure. In the present study, taluk has been considered as a basic unit of investigation. The study of spatio-temporal changes in population characteristics includes growth rate, distribution, density, sex ratio, literacy rate and human resources development in the study region. In the first phase of research, the data collected from different sources are processed and analyzed; maps and diagrams are also used for effective analysis of the relevant statistical information pertaining population characteristics and indicators of human resource development of the district concerned.
