abstract = {All the energy sources are limited and at the same time these energy sources create pollution problems. This has led to the focus on a sustainable energy supply, which implies optimized use of energy, minimized pollution. That is why wind energy is prominent and it is the solution to the global energy problem. The wind energy is generated by using wind turbines. The turbine rotor plays very important role in the wind turbines. The efficiency of the wind turbine not only depends on the material of the blade, shape of the blade and angle of the blade but also the heart of the turbine element called hub which transmits the torque developed by the blades to the gear box of the turbine. As the rotor hub system is subjected to time varying torque which varying from minimum to maximum depends on the wind speed, it is to be designed for its dynamically varying harmonic loading conditions and failure.
In addition to experimental tests of load carrying capacity under extreme loading, and tests of the fatigue resistance, it is common practice to supplement with tests of the basic dynamic properties of the hub, such as natural frequencies and damping properties, as these are essential for the dynamic behavior and structural integrity of the entire wind turbine. The present report aims in determining of natural frequencies and structural damping characteristics of the wind turbine hub. Modal analysis is by far the most common method used to characterize the dynamics of mechanical systems, and it produces very illustrative and easy interpretable results. Modal analysis is followed by the harmonic analysis of the turbine hub to study its complete dynamic characteristics under varying dynamic harmonic loads.
