Trends in Carbon Stockpile Pattern of Mixed Oak and Pine Forests of Indian Central Himalaya

  • This study examined the stock of soil organic carbon (SOC) and soil properties in mixed oak and mixed pine forests at various elevations in Himalaya over a two-year period (2008–2010). According to the study, the pH and soil texture at particular locations ranged from slightly acidic to neutral, with the soil texture ranging from loam to sandy loam. Compared to mixed pine forests, mixed oak woods have a higher SOC stock. The range of the average SOC stock was 43.81 to 53.47 tons/ha in the degraded mixed pine forest site and 110.37 to 125.03 tons/ha in the non-degraded mixed oak forest site. In comparison to mixed pine forests, mixed oak forests were shown to have greater P2O5, K20, TN, and C:N ratios.
