  • Abstract:
  • This paper argues that William Shakespeare’s plays remain culturally, pedagogically, and politically relevant in the 21st century. Drawing on recent scholarship, institutional practice, and examples of contemporary adaptation, it shows how Shakespeare’s thematic universality (power, identity, love, and violence), linguistic creativity, and structural flexibility enable ongoing reinterpretation across media, cultures, and pedagogies. The paper combines a literature review with close reading of representative plays and case studies of modern adaptations and institutional initiatives to demonstrate how Shakespeare functions as a living repertory—one that both shapes and is shaped by present-day concerns such as globalization, social justice movements, digital culture, and classroom pedagogy.
