OPTIMIZING AESTHETIC OUTCOMES: A REVIEW OF SHADE SELECTION METHODS IN PROSTHODONTICS

  • Abstract:
  • One of the hardest parts of obtaining natural esthetics in restorative dentistry is choosing a precise tooth shade. Several factors affect shade determination, such as illumination, the tooth's natural state, viewing angle, backdrop, eye fatigue, color vision impairments, and even some drugs. To create life like restorations, physicians need to be well-versed in dental color science, available shade systems, and shade selection criteria. Four essential components—proper tooth location, harmonic shape, suitable surface texture, and a precisely matched shade—are necessary to achieve optimal aesthetics. The fundamental principles of color and shade in dentistry, the optical characteristics of natural teeth, the several elements influencing shade choice, and the visual and instrument-assisted techniques for shade matching are all covered in this article. Clinicians can reduce mistakes and improve the predictability of aesthetic results in prosthodontic and restorative operations by comprehending these principles.
