abstract = {The integration of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) education with environmental education represents a pivotal advancement in pedagogical strategies aimed at equipping students with the necessary skills to address contemporary environmental challenges. This approach, commonly referred to as Environmental STEM (E-STEM) or Greening STEM, merges critical ecological studies with traditional STEM curricula, promoting experiential learning that emphasizes real-world applications and interdisciplinary understanding. With escalating concerns about climate change, pollution, and resource depletion, the incorporation of E-STEM into high school education, particularly for 11th-grade teachers, has garnered significant attention as a means to foster student engagement and ecological awareness. E-STEM encourages the utilization of local environments as educational contexts, which has been shown to enhance students' critical thinking, creativity, and motivation. Research indicates that environmental education integrated with STEM disciplines not only boosts academic performance but also cultivates positive environmental attitudes among students.
However, despite the benefits of E-STEM, the current landscape reveals challenges, particularly regarding equity and access. Students from marginalized communities often face barriers to quality STEM education, highlighting the need for targeted interventions to ensure inclusive and effective learning opportunities for all students. The success of E-STEM hinges on the quality of instruction delivered by teachers, necessitating robust professional development and support systems to enhance educators' content knowledge and teaching strategies.
Effective E-STEM curricula require coherence, relevance, and rigor, ensuring that lessons are designed to resonate with students' lives while meeting educational standards. This comprehensive approach aims to prepare students not only for academic success but also for active participation in solving pressing environmental issues, thus underscoring the transformative potential of integrating STEM and environmental education in today’s classrooms.},
