Applications of Spectroscopic Methods in Chemical and Pharmaceutical Analysis: A Review

  • Spectroscopic methods have become indispensable tools in chemical and pharmaceutical analysis due to their rapidity, sensitivity, and non-destructive nature. These techniques rely on the interaction between electromagnetic radiation and matter, enabling the identification, structural elucidation, and quantification of chemical substances. In pharmaceutical sciences, spectroscopy plays a crucial role in drug discovery, quality control, formulation development, and regulatory compliance. This review highlights the principles and applications of major spectroscopic techniques such as UV–Visible spectroscopy, Infrared (IR) spectroscopy, Nuclear Magnetic Resonance (NMR), Mass Spectrometry (MS), Raman spectroscopy, and Near-Infrared (NIR) spectroscopy. Emphasis is placed on their roles in qualitative and quantitative analysis, process analytical technology (PAT), and emerging advancements such as chemometrics and hyphenated techniques. The advantages, limitations, and future prospects of spectroscopic methods in modern pharmaceutical analysis are also discussed.
