abstract = {Arthritis is a chronic, progressive inflammatory disorder of the joints that represents one of the most prevalent and debilitating musculoskeletal conditions affecting human health worldwide. It encompasses more than 100 distinct disease entities foremost among which are osteoarthritis and rheumatoid arthritis all characterized by varying degrees of joint inflammation, pain, swelling, stiffness, and progressive structural damage that severely impair physical function and quality of life. With an estimated global prevalence of over 350 million people affected by various forms of arthritis, and no currently available cure for most forms, effective long-term management of joint inflammation and pain remains one of the most significant and persistent challenges in clinical medicine.
Conventional pharmacological management of arthritis relies on non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs), corticosteroids, disease-modifying antirheumatic drugs (DMARDs), and biologic agents. While effective in controlling symptoms and slowing disease progression in many patients, these therapies are associated with serious adverse effects including gastrointestinal ulceration, cardiovascular events, renal toxicity, hepatotoxicity, and immunosuppression with prolonged use. This has generated considerable and growing interest in developing effective herbal anti-inflammatory therapeutic alternatives with superior safety profiles.
