abstract = {The present study examines the performance and trends of arecanut cultivation in India and Karnataka during 2005–06 to 2024–25, using secondary data from official horticultural statistics. The study analyzes changes in area, production, and yield through Compound Annual Growth Rate (CAGR) and regression-based ANOVA. The findings reveal that arecanut cultivation has expanded significantly over the study period. In India, the area and production recorded CAGRs of 5.32 percent and 7.36 percent, respectively, while yield increased by 1.95 percent. Karnataka exhibited stronger growth, with area and production registering CAGRs of 7.92 percent and 8.09 percent, respectively; however, yield recorded a marginal negative CAGR of –0.19 percent, indicating fluctuations in productivity. The ANOVA results confirmed that the regression models for area, production, and yield were highly significant (p < 0.001) for both India and Karnataka, indicating statistically significant long-term trends. The study concludes that the expansion of cultivated area has been the principal driver of production growth, while productivity improvements have remained comparatively limited. The findings emphasize the need for climate-resilient technologies, scientific crop management, mechanization, improved planting materials, and effective extension services to enhance productivity and ensure the sustainable development of arecanut cultivation in India, particularly in Karnataka.},
