RECONCEPTUALIZING SCHOOL LEADERSHIP IN THE DIGITAL ERA: A FRAMEWORK LINKING ADMINISTRATOR DIGITAL LITERACY, VIRTUAL CLIMATE, AND TEACHER RETENTION

  • Abstract:
  • The rapid evolution of digital technology has significantly transformed educational paradigms across the globe. As educational institutions increasingly transition toward hybrid or fully digital delivery models, traditional paradigms of school leadership fail to fully address the distinct psychological and operational realities of a virtual workforce. This conceptual paper introduces an integrated theoretical framework that connects Administrator Digital Literacy (ADL) to teacher retention, mediated entirely by the quality of the virtual school climate. Drawing upon Transformational Leadership Theory, Social Exchange Theory, and the Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) model, the paper establishes that an administrator’s digital literacy is not merely a technical skill set but a core strategic leadership asset. This competency is essential for constructing a transparent, communicatively efficient, and psychologically secure virtual climate that reduces occupational burnout and promotes long-term organizational commitment among modern educators. The proposed model provides actionable pathways for institutional policy and future empirical research in educational leadership.
