abstract = {Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan’s educational philosophy presents education as a process of holistic human development rather than merely the acquisition of academic knowledge. His ideas concerning curriculum and teaching methods emphasize the balanced development of intellectual, moral, social, cultural, scientific, vocational and spiritual dimensions of the learner. Radhakrishnan advocated a broad curriculum incorporating philosophy, literature, science, ethics, history, geography, economics, agriculture, civics and human sciences. He also emphasized observation, experimentation, practical experience and the relationship between nature, society and learning. The present study examines Radhakrishnan’s concept of curriculum and teaching methods and analyses their relevance to holistic education in contemporary India. A descriptive, philosophical and analytical method was adopted, with documentary and thematic analysis of Radhakrishnan’s educational ideas, related literature and contemporary educational perspectives. Three objectives were formulated: to examine the philosophical foundations of Radhakrishnan’s curriculum; to analyse his teaching methods and their contribution to learner development; and to assess the contemporary relevance of his curriculum and pedagogical ideas.
The analysis indicates that his broad and life-related curriculum is compatible with contemporary multidisciplinary education, while his emphasis on observation, experimentation and real-life experience corresponds with experiential and inquiry-based learning. His emphasis on values, vocational competence, culture, scientific attitude and social responsibility provides a comprehensive framework for holistic education. The study concludes that Radhakrishnan’s educational ideas remain relevant, although they should be critically adapted to contemporary concerns such as inclusion, gender equality, digital learning, environmental sustainability, critical thinking and constitutional values.},
