  • Abstract:
  • The digital economy has emerged as a major driver of structural economic transformation, influencing production, consumption, trade, employment, entrepreneurship, financial services, and public administration. Digital technologies such as broadband connectivity, smartphones, cloud computing, artificial intelligence, digital payment systems, e-commerce platforms, digital identification, blockchain, and data analytics are increasingly integrated into economic activities. For developing countries, digital transformation presents significant opportunities to accelerate economic growth, improve productivity, expand financial inclusion, create employment opportunities, strengthen entrepreneurship, and improve access to public and private services. At the same time, inadequate infrastructure, digital inequality, limited digital skills, cybersecurity risks, data-privacy concerns, regulatory weaknesses, and unequal access to technological resources can prevent the benefits of digitalization from being distributed broadly. This article examines the relationship between the digital economy and inclusive economic growth, with particular emphasis on the role of digital transformation in developing countries. The study adopts a conceptual and descriptive research methodology based on secondary sources, including academic literature, institutional reports, books, and publications from international organizations. The article analyzes the major channels through which digital transformation influences economic growth, including productivity enhancement, innovation, digital entrepreneurship, financial inclusion, e-commerce, employment, human-capital development, and public-service delivery. It further examines the digital divide and the institutional challenges that may limit inclusive participation in the digital economy. The study argues that digital transformation can contribute significantly to inclusive growth when supported by affordable digital infrastructure, effective education and skills development, accessible financial services, competitive markets, appropriate regulation, cybersecurity, and inclusive digital policies. The article concludes that developing countries should adopt a comprehensive digital-development strategy that treats digital transformation not simply as a technological process but as a broader economic and social transformation capable of improving productivity, expanding opportunity, and promoting sustainable and inclusive development.
