AI-Powered Breast Cancer Detection in Indian Women: A Multicenter Study

  • Breast cancer is a really very big health issue in India. It has high in rates of both cases as well as deaths. Early detection is really important because it can help people live longer, but the current ways to screen for it aren’t perfect and accurate. Recently, researchers did a study across several hospitals to create an AI tool for spotting breast cancer in Indian women using mammography pictures. They gathered a lot of images -like from five big hospitals—that showed many different patients. Their AI model used deep learning, and guess what? It achieved an amazing accuracy of 95.6% for detecting breast cancer! This is even better than what human radiologists could do. The tool showed great sensitivity (94.2%) & specificity (96.1%), which means it was good at finding true positives and avoiding false positives. Plus, its positive predictive value was 91.3%, while the negative predictive value was 97.5%. These numbers are pretty impressive! This AI tool could really help boost early detection and improve health outcomes for women in India. When doctors use this model in their daily work, they will get some helpful support in diagnosing breast cancer, especially where resources are limited. Looking ahead, researchers want to focus on using this AI model more widely and see how it affects breast cancer outcomes in Indian women.
