abstract = {According to the World Health Report, approximately 15% of children worldwide suffer from serious emotional disturbances. In India, ICMR reports a 12.5% prevalence of mental and behavioral disorders among children. These conditions often manifest as attachment difficulties, anxiety, and ADHD, significantly impacting healthy development and increasing the risk of long-term antisocial behavior, low self-esteem, and academic failure. As children are the primary resources for a nation’s future, their psychological well-being is paramount. Primary school teachers play a critical role in identifying these early warning signs.
Objectives: This study aimed to assess the effectiveness of a planned teaching program on the knowledge of primary school teachers regarding child behavior disorders.
Methods: pre-experimental one-group pre-test post-test design was employed. A sample of 56 teachers from Zilla Parishad schools was selected using a non- probability purposive sampling technique. Data were collected via a structured questionnaire covering demographic variables and behavioral knowledge. Statistical analysis was performed using descriptive and inferential statistics, including frequency distribution and t-tests.
Results: The demographic profile revealed that 51.79% of participants were male, 46.43% fell within the 25–30 age bracket, and 41.07% held B.Ed. qualifications. Prior to the intervention, teachers exhibited a lack of comprehensive knowledge regarding complex psychopathologies. The pilot study (n=6) yielded a significant t-score of 14.46. In the main study, the mean knowledge score increased significantly from a pre-test value of 15.98 to a post-test value of 20.01 following the training program.
Conclusion: The findings indicate that the planned teaching program was highly effective in enhancing teachers' understanding of child behavior disorders. Given the significant knowledge gain, such training programs are essential tools for equipping educators to support the mental health and intellectual development of school-going children.},
