Abstract
In this paper a simple empirical relation has been proposed to estimate the refractive index of I-III-VI2 and II-IV-V2 type chalcopyrite semi-conductors. This relation is based on the dependence of refractive index on energy gap of the chalcopyrite crystals. The computed values of refractive indices from the present relation are found to be in good agreement with the known values.
