Abstract
Karnataka is one of the progressive states at the all India level in general and Southern India in particular, but still when it comes to the extent of the budget it is lower than Tamilnadu and more or less on par with Kerala state. Therefore, in this paper an effort is made to identify some of the lacunas, which are not contributing to the extent possible, which they could have. The paper based on the secondary data analysis reveals that strentheing the agriculture sector by providing irrigation facilities can go a long way in enhancing the contribution of the agriculture sector from the present 15 per cent to 25 per cent of the budget. Hence the paper suggests that intensive irrigation facilities have to be provided to enhance the contribution of agriculture to the state GDP.
