  • Abstract:
  • This paper focuses on optimum placement of phasor measurement units or PMU in wide area protection system. Integer linear programming method is used for optimization. High equipment & installation costs of pmu & its communication costs can be reduced through optimum placement of Pmu’s. Placement of pmu on generator buses is also considered as a constraint for efficient backup protection. The optimization of pmu is modelled with GAMS software & WSCC 9 bus system is modelled in Power world simulator software.
