Because the angle between sun and fixed surface is usually changing, the power density on fixed PV module is smaller amount than that of incident sunlight. Since the flat plate solar collectors are placed at an angle to the horizontal, it is necessary to calculate the optimum tilt angle that maximizes the quantity of collected energy. Since the flat plate solar collectors are placed at an angle to the horizontal, it is necessary to calculate the optimum tilt angle which maximizes the quantity of collected energy. In this paper a mathematical model was used for estimating the global solar radiation on a tilted surface, and to see the optimum tilt angle for the solar collector in Jabalpur city on a monthly basis, in addition to for a specific time period. This investigate work tends to explain the availability of solar radiation for south-facing flat surfaces. The optimal monthly, seasonal, and annual tilt angles are estimated for Jabalpur city. The solar radiation received by the incident plane is estimated based on two isotropic and two anisotropic models. The annual optimum tilt angle for was found to be 26.83°. The determination of annual solar power gains is done by applying the optimal monthly, seasonal and annual tilt angles for an inclined surface compared to a horizontal surface. Monthly, seasonal and annual percentages of solar power gains have been estimated to be 15.45%, 14.31%, and 11.07%. Losses of solar power were estimated by 0.84 % when a surface was fixed at a seasonal optimum tilt angle and 1.94% losses when it was fixed at an annual optimum tilt angle.}, keywords = {solar energy; gains; estimation; tilt angle; south-facing; surface; jabalpur}, month = {}, }
